ADD THERAPY IN HARRISBURG, PA
Autism & ADHD Counseling in Harrisburg, PA
Reconnect to yourself. Embrace your uniqueness.
Life in Harrisburg offers a unique blend of suburban life and small-town charm that draws people in. Harrisburg is just the right size, offering plenty to do and enjoy without the stressors of life in a larger city. But if you’re neurodivergent, simply living in a calmer community doesn’t necessarily mean that life feels easier to navigate. You may feel the need to mask and try to fit in among co-workers and peers. You may struggle with sensory overload in public places and, as a result, find yourself isolating. You may long for true connections with people who accept you just as you are.
Neurodivergent affirming therapy provides a supportive and understanding space for individuals who have various diagnoses such as Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Dyslexia, and other neurological differences. At First Brick Counseling, we recognize the unique ways you perceive and process information and interact with the world. We have specialized training in working with Autistic individuals and those with ADHD.
Together, we’ll focus on self-acceptance, empowerment, and resilience while helping you embrace your uniqueness and reconnect to yourself. I will also support you in navigating relationship dynamics and building a sense of true community.

how i can help
Affirming therapy can help you find peace and confidence in who you are.
Unlike Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), we focus on embracing your unique traits and strengths—there is nothing to "fix" because you are not broken.
Together, we’ll identify the accommodations you need to thrive and work on communication skills to improve your relationships.
Whether you have Autism, ADHD, or both, you are the expert of your own experiences—and I’m here to support you in navigating them.
imagine if you…
Embraced your unique traits
Instead of seeing your Autism and/or ADHD as deficits, we’ll reframe them to highlight how these traits make you unique and how they can be strengths.
No longer felt the need to mask
When you stop masking, you reduce anxiety, depression, stress, and exhaustion. Expecting you to “act normal” when your brain is wired differently is unrealistic. "Embrace your weird" is one of our favorite mantras.
Identified the supports that are right for you
Together, we’ll find the accommodations and strategies that help you thrive, while building healthy relationships with supportive people—so you no longer feel alone.
I want you to know:
Change is possible.
Let’s work together.

Common questions about neurodivergent affirming therapy
-
Neurodivergent means “differing in mental or neurological function from what is considered typical or normal (frequently used with reference to autistic spectrum disorders); not neurotypical.” It covers a variety of diagnoses such as Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Dyslexia, etc. First Brick Counseling specializes in working with Autistic folks and ADHD.
-
No. ABA trains neurodivergent individuals to not be neurodivergent. In other words, it is a form of conversion therapy and encourages “masking” (hiding natural emotions or behaviors for the individual). Our focus is to embrace the differences and explore ways to navigate the word with whatever accommodations are needed.
-
There are many different ways to accommodate these needs, not all covered in this section.
Some examples: We provide a whiteboard for doodling or writing. Sometimes we utilize music to communicate emotions/thoughts. We provide a “fidget bin” that offers a variety of different fidget toys to be used during the session. We have the ability to adjust lighting as needed.

There is no predetermined answer to this question. Therapy is a deeply personal process that varies from person to person. Your personal goals will affect how long you stay in therapy. Some people need only a few sessions, while others stay in therapy for a few years. We will discuss discharge planning on an ongoing basis so you can provide feedback and know what to expect.
